Hi

I’m home from the pyrenees #transnomad enduro mtb race; i think it’s worthy of a proper write-up in my own inimitable style later. It was harder than I expected and on day 3 doubts were creeping in that I would physically be able to complete it …

It was easier than the #stoneking tour I did last year – which I won’t be doing again, not because this years was the last one but because I don’t need to do “holidays” as tough as that aged 58 and three quarters (😁) anymore.

Anyway, I digress. Whilst I was away I wanted to try a #btc/#xrd #swap but because I didn’t have my laptop or #ledger with me – just mountain bike spare parts – I wasn’t able to.

Here are the instructions on how I did it and the result

Buy some bitcoin – I used #revolut.

Send the purchased bitcoin to ledger live using your #ledger (revolut must employ some btc address filter – they will let you withdraw your #bitcoin to ledger live but using other addresses – such as those generated by the swap website for example – i used exolix.com – may fail.

I chose #exolix because it was posted on www.radixdlt.com/token – don’t choose a scammer!

Make sure the exchange is legit!

Go to the swap website and select the crypto you want to swap into and paste your receiving address (this assumes you have the relevant wallet installed somewhere – the #radix wallet experience on #android is awesome by the way).

Exolix decentralised swap address details and amounts

Send your bitcoin (which you now control – not revolut in my example) to the address provided by the swap website.

Wait a little while..

Exolix transaction confirmation

And “et voila” your swapped crypto will turn up in your wallet.

Radix transaction details

There are three key take-aways for me.

Firstly, I normally use #bitfinex to swap my bitcoin for radix but it is a drawn out process. The @exolix_com swap was super easy to do – I didn’t even have to register or login to their website (I did though because I will be using them again!)

Secondly, I only swapped around $600 because this was the amount I was prepared to lose.. and I didn’t lose it!

Thirdly, decentralised exchanges are here to stay. They make banks look like dinosaurs!
