These are my contemparaneous thoughts ...
I was one of the lucky people that was able to watch Dominic Cummings ("DC") bare his soul to the Parliamentary Committee yesterday live on TV about the UK Government's handling of SARS-CoV-2.
I stopped watching when it got to the "upbeat" results of the AstraZeneca vaccination program; not because I'm anti-vaccination but because I felt that he'd sufficiently lifted the lid on the "headless chicken" approach of No. 10 in the early throes of the SARS-CoV-2 crisis.
The thing is that unless you had the time to watch this you may only have read the summaries "spinned" by the mainstream press and the politicians who hate him and who are truly incensed and incentivised to destroy his narrative.
He apologised a lot and at one point I thought he was going to cry ..!
You wont hear about that in the press.
I have to make two things clear here.
1. I don't agree with DC on the lockdown front and I'm leaning more towards Boris Johnson ("BJ") on the economic argument.
2. I have an affinity to DC; I am attracted to his intellect, critical introspection (maybe not altruistic but close for someone who is not a bee or an ant), his socially misunderstood contrarianism and his principles.
I'm going to keep this short.
Two things struck me.
1. Contempt for Politicians.
The seriously intelligent people in the world are going to make much more money outside of politics and the civil service; which is why we end up with the politicians and civil servants that we end up with. I really don't know how we address this. I'm not sure that offering more money to politicians is the solution. But they do have a seriously hard job to do.
2. The rose garden interview
I wrote this post about the rose garden interview. It just felt wrong to me at the time. DC came across as angry. And it turns out he was angry because he was protecting BJ's arse and taking the fall for it... And still a jumped up fat slick haired forgettable tory politician wanted him to apologise for not apologising for covering BJ's arse...
